18 Holes and Counting!

Our Love Affair with Golf!

“Golf Podcasts”

Like so many golfers, I used to mainly get my golf news from Golf Digest and Golf Monthly magazines, as well as other golf publications. I found these golf publications to be a source of entertainment, education, and inspiration for me. They helped me improve my game, provided a resource regarding the latest equipment, and sometimes I even discovered some new strategies to apply when playing a round.

But recently I noticed that I enjoy listening to golf podcasts and following various golf influencers on social media more than reading a magazine on the sport.

Heck – I was listening to non-golf podcast long before it was “cool” for politicians to be on them.

One of the great things about podcasts is that they don’t require any special equipment. I can listen to them anywhere. Which is great for us – since we are always moving. And there are a ton of them to choose from.

My biggest reason for the new attraction to golf podcasts and blogs, is the lack of advertisements. Sure there are some good articles, stories, and tidbits in some of the magazines, but overwhelmingly I can’t help but notice the high number of equipment ads more than anything else. I am just not a gear junkie, so these ads become more of a distraction than anything else for me. In fact, I feel like whenever I pick up a golf magazine to perhaps purchase it and begin to glance through, looking to review the articles and such, it’s all just ads.

For me, golf podcasts are worth listening to because they provide in-depth analysis, behind-the-scenes insights, candid opinions from players and experts, interesting stories about the game, and some offer actionable advice to improve my golf game. I guess you could say golf podcasts give me a deeper understanding and appreciation for the game of golf.

A couple of the golf podcasts I follow are:

As for the golf blogs, I find golf blogs more appealing than golf magazines because they provide a personal touch, which is missing while reading from an article in a magazine. The more I follow various golf blogs, the more I discover an active golf community who all love the game as much as I do. I was both surprised and happy as I began to uncover individuals like myself focused on golf and how to enjoy it in different ways.

And if I was going to be completely honest – that’s not so bad!

Here are three golf bloggers I follow:

  1. The Grateful Golfer
  2. Travel Lifestyle Golf
  3. Fore The Ladies

The truth is, I can find podcasts on just about any topic imaginable. I have found podcasts to suit almost anything I am interested in – from golf (duh?!) to RVing, from health and nutrition, to exercise, and beyond.

With podcasts, my brain seems to retain more information and my hearing is more actively engaged.

The added bonus? I find tuning into a podcast has helped reduce my stress levels. Seriously. By switching off the outside world, my mind is calmer and I seem to be enjoying more relaxation time, truly diverting my thoughts from daily worries.

Not to mention one of the best things about podcasts is that they are usually free to download and listen to. And since I am pretty much a tight-wad, this is a big plus for me.

I think it’s been the same for blog sites as well.

Which has me wondering….Do people still read blogs?

I believe the answer is Yes, people still read blogs; while the landscape may have shifted with the rise of social media, my research indicates a significant portion of internet users still regularly read blog posts, making blogging a relevant content format in 2025.

Finding this bit of news has certainly reinforced my belief (not to mention made me feel a tad bit better) that our own blog is relevant and golfers (as well as non-golfers) appreciate it!

We started 18 Holes and Counting to share our thoughts, experiences, and knowledge about this game we so enjoy. Our goal was to document our travels and connect with other golfers and RVers. That was five years ago already. And we are still going strong. Our current goal of golfing in all 50 states is more than half-way complete – with 15 still to cover.

I am proud of what we started with 18 Holes and Counting. The site, content, and vision are still in its infancy, but the future is hopeful. Our goal continues to be to provide a fun and quick read to everyone. We certainly are not looking at this from a professional golfer’s point of view. And we aren’t anything special in the way of golf skill.

We are just a couple of recreational golfers who enjoy the game, and who are thankful you are following along!

What a thoughtful read- thank you for giving us some insight into some of your top tips for bloggers and podcasters. We’ve been on a few podcasts and we’ve been asked to do our own… but for now our blog is pretty well read globally. There’s no pressure to keep producing for it as we own it but love how the stats change dramatically when we do post something. Blogs definitely aren’t dead.
Keep up the good work and keep sharing your thoughts👏👏
