Loreta Golf Club Review

Scorcard – Loreta
Date of Play – August 2018
Loreta is located about 25 minutes outside the center of Prague. Kathy and I live in Prague and when we got to Prague we started looking for a home course. Loreta fit the bill. Loreta is a solid course with everything you need to play a great round of golf. Well, if you are a great golfer. Let me start with the practice area. Like most courses there is a driving range, putting area and a chipping area. However, Loreta goes one step further with a short hole and an extra putting green. Both are next to the parking area. If you had your own shag bag and wanted to get in some practice, it is a perfect little area. The bonus is no-one will even know how much practice you are sneaking in. Taking their money will be a breeze.
The course is always in good condition and the layout offers a small variety of challenging holes, risk/reward holes and holes that play best with course management. There are a few water holes, and some bunkers that are placed to give you pause before you swing. Overall the course is not hard and loosing balls is not the goal of the design. The tees are placed at good distance differences to test the skill of all players. Yet there are a couple of holes that tempt strong drivers into going for it.
The views from the course make you feel like you are no where near the hustle of Prague, offering rolling hills and picturesque small villages in the background of most holes.
There are a few small hurtles that Loreta could address, and one that you will just have to learn to love. Loreta clubhouse is located at the top of a small hill. The walk from the car to the clubhouse is a rough one. I have learned to think of it as warm up. But no matter how you look at it, walking up the hill with my gear is not the first thing I want to do before playing a round of golf. Once you get to the clubhouse, the customer service is, well, underwhelming. If you don’t know what you are doing or where you are going, there won’t much enthusiastic help. Finally, Loreta has a nice restaurant but that is what it is – a restaurant. There are no burgers, no schnitzels, or just quick before/after golf food. They want you to come in, sit down, and stay a while. The food is good and the setting is nice. But sometimes after a round of golf, I just want a burger and a beer.
The course could also use a cart person or water jugs throughout the course. They think that because you can get to the restaurant at the 7th and 9th holes, you can get what you need then.
As I said at the beginning, Loreta is a solid course. And as courses go, a very nice one to play. Kathy and I give this course an overall par. They got a few bogies along the way and a couple of birdies too. Loreta is a perfect course to have in your repertoire of courses to play.
Fairways and Greens, we are 18 Holes and Counting.
