TimberStone Golf Course Review
June 19, 2024
Kathy and I are spending a few weeks in Caldwell Idaho, giving us plenty of time to get in a few extra rounds of golf. We came across TimberStone Golf Course for our second round here. We were so pleased with the course we had to play it again.
So, this review will be with two rounds of golf under our belt at TimberStone Golf Course.
We played our first round of golf in Idaho at another course with Scott and Deanna. They commented on the layout of that course, wanting more variety and character. As Kathy and I were playing TimberStone Golf Course we knew this is what Scott and Deanna wanted in a round of golf.
TimberStone Golf Course has everything a golf course should have and most of it is above the level you would expect. There was only one glaring disappointment. I will get to that later.
First the good. And there is a lot of good.
The clubhouse is an all-in-one building. It has the Pro Shop, bathrooms, shopping, dining, and snacks all under one roof. It is not too big but has everything you need to get you out on the course.
Before you get started with your round of golf, the driving range, chipping, putting, and training facilities are just a few steps out of the back door of the clubhouse. The training facility has a large area dedicated to quality training.
I am sure many a good golfer has started right there.
TimberStone Golf Course has the first and tenth tee boxes across the parking lot. There is a putting green just off the first tee to give you a taste of the insanely perfect greens you will be putting on throughout your round….as well as to assist with your warm-up while you wait for your time to tee off.
From the first tee box to the last the views are everywhere. No hole is the same, in either layout, difficulty, or views.
TimberStone Golf Course also took the different skill levels of nearly every player in mind. Our group used 3 different tee boxes and all of us were happy and challenged.
Scott and Deanna both commented on the first tee that the views are amazing. To further their thought, the course itself was stunning.
You can tell the grounds crew take pride in producing a beautiful, challenging course.
To start, the entire course was meticulously cared for. Ensuring the course ages into a stunning work of art. The tee boxes were not full of divots. They were clean, level, and rotated regularly. All sets were the same. Some courses have one or two sets of boxes that look like they have been through war. But, not TimberStone Golf Course, they were all perfect. All 7 sets.
The fairways were like playing off carpet. They had a little plush give to them. The ball seemed to snap right off the perfectly groomed surface. There is a well-defined fairway with an edge that instantly turns into a taller second cut.
Even the second cut was amazing. It didn’t swallow the ball up leaving you needing a spectator to spot your ball and stand there until you arrived.
The trees were well planned. They were still young but, full. They will grow into the slice/hook guardians they were meant to be. Pinning you, demanding you produce a special shot to get away from their grasp. They were already formidable advisories that did not want to give you an easy out.
The best part of the course was the layout. All four of us were very pleased that no hole looked, played or felt the same. Even with all the variety TimberStone Golf Course offered, it didn’t feel like a gimmick. It was a well-thought-out plan to provide a course that tested all of your skills. Even then, if you played the proper set of tees the course was set to give you a chance. It was not a course that planned for good to great players then added tees closer to the green for higher handicap players. It seemed to change skill level with each tee box. Amazing layout.
I did not see a cart person on the course. There is water stations with ice dispensers on the course. And, as you got close to each one the golf cart alerted you to them. We did take advantage of them each time we played.
The only thing I will complain about is the food and the way it is set up.
The restaurant is a food truck. Not a very good one either. A bit slow and no drinks. You have to go into the clubhouse to buy those. A poor setup at best. Making you have two checkouts for a burger and drink. The food was average and as a matter of fact, the second time we played we made sure to plan our after golf meal somewhere else. The food/restaurant is the only thing I would rethink or change at TimberStone Golf Course.
TimberStone Golf Course is among one of the best courses I have played.
I easily rate this course a Birdie.
I feel there is very little they can do to make it better. We will be playing here again before we leave the area. TimberStone Golf Course is a few minutes from Caldwell and about forty minutes from Boise. I would make the drive from Boise for sure to play here. If you are in the area and want to play a quality course, make your way to TimberStone Golf Course. You will not be disappointed.
