Grapevine Golf Course Review

Cowboys Golf course bag drop

Today was a wonderful find. Here is what happened. Kathy did a little research on what course to play this week. She found the Dallas Cowboys golf course. It is a high end full service golf course, and according to internet reviews – always in pristine condition. We decided to try a walk-on in the middle of the week, hoping that there would be just enough room for us. Unfortunately, there was not. We couldn’t even make a tee time for the the next week. It was booked with tournaments and players. We had no chance. So, with our tails tucked and our heads down, we sadly left the course.

But, within two miles we spotted another course. That’s right, there was a course in the same area on the back side of the Cowboys Golf course called Grapevine Golf Course.

As we pulled in, our hearts were filled with excitement. The course looked beautiful. The grass was a deep green, full and lush. As we got closer, the course unfolded with rolling hills full of trees and water. We were drawn in at how beautiful it was from the parking lot. Maybe we can walk on here. We walked into the clubhouse with our renewed excitement and asked, do you have room for two as a walk on? Sadly, once again, it was a no, not today.

Then we decided we were going to see what was open during the next week. The wait was not long. There was a spot for two the next morning at 7:20.

Woohoo, we were in!

We arrived early for our 7:20 tee time. Excited to play, we were paired with a local member and another single player, Scott and Tom. Both Kathy and I like being paired with someone that knows the layout of the course. Especially when they are willing to share the course secrets.

Our first round partners – Scott and Tom

Grapevine Golf Course has 3-nine hole courses. The layout is spectacular. As I said in at the beginning of this review, the grass is lush and full. There wasn’t any areas that needed tending. Right from the very first hole we were impressed.

This has to be one of the best $70 courses we have ever played!

The trees were mature and beautiful. The water was a perfect deterrent. And, the sand bunkers are the guardians of the green. Often, when you put all the elements together that make up a track, they can be irritating or exhilarating.

I am here to tell you that Grapevine Golf Course was exhilarating.

You need every part of a good golf game to score on this course. There are long holes, hard dogleg holes, narrow holes, and short holes that offer a great risk reward.

And the greens….WOW! They rolled so smooth. Not a blemish on most of them. The best part of it all, the growing season just got started. In a couple more weeks, this course will be phenomenal.

I didn’t play as well as I wanted to and thought I would be able to do better. But, like most of the courses we play, this was going to be it. Or was it?

When we got home Kathy suggested we try to get on again. Without hesitation I got on the phone for a tee time. With great delight, I got one before we had to leave the area. I was so excited to have another chance to play Grapevine Golf Course.

    Alan showing me the way

And this time we were paired with another local player, Alan. Alan has played both Grapevine and The Cowboys courses often. He told me they are very much the same in quality. The Cowboys course seems to offer more amenities and a few extra perks, but the courses are actually right next to each other and share the same water source, allowing them to stay lush and green all season long.

Our second round partner – Alan

The biggest difference was the cost. The Cowboys Course was $198. Our second round at Grapevine was during the week. With a senior discount, our $70 weekend price dropped to $40. Once again – WOW!

This is the best, yes – you read that right:

THE BEST COURSE I HAVE EVER PLAYED FOR JUST $40!

And that included the cart. If you felt like playing 27 holes, it would only cost $12 more dollars. Incredible.  As we were playing, Alan would point out the holes we could see of the Cowboys course. I was amazed that the two courses were nearly indistinguishable.

From the minute you walk into the welcoming club house until you climb back into your car, Grapevine golf course is amazing. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, was friendly and wanted to see you enjoying your round of golf.

    • The Pro-Shop staff wanted to find us a tee time and get us on the course.
    • The starter made sure that there was just the perfect amount of space between groups to limit the waiting while we played.
    • The cart girls made their way around the course quickly, wanting to make sure you had everything you needed.

Honestly, I just couldn’t find anything wrong or anything to be picky about at Grapevine Golf Course.

Grapevine Golf Course is a Birdie course and in the price category of $40 to $70, I am giving it an Eagle!

That’s right, my first eagle rating for a golf course.

So, if you are in the Dallas area and you want to play golf, book your tee time at Grapevine Golf Course. Don’t even look somewhere else. You will love it. And like me, you are going to want to play a second round there are soon as you can.

As I told Kathy, Grapevine Golf Course is going to be one of our “must play” courses when we come to Dallas every year. I am not even going to look anywhere else. Trust me on this one.

      • Bob – thanks. And yup, we were certainly hoping for a Hole-in-One as well. But alas, it was not to be. However, we did enjoy the Fairways and Greens – Kath
