Honey Run Golf Club Review
September 12, 2021
While we are staying in Hershey, PA, Kathy and I have been able to squeeze in three rounds of golf. I am very pleased about that because there is a lot to see here and we want to do both without sacrificing one for the other.
We are staying in a campground that is surrounded by a few golf courses – all within 5 miles. Today we got on at Honey Run Golf Club.
I have to say that I have not been disappointed with any of the courses we have played in the area, and Honey Run Golf Club was no different. It has a great layout and the condition is awesome.
Everything from the tee to the green was in great shape!
Hurricane Ida did pass through this area a couple of weeks ago and the rain has continued to keep everything wet. That left the fairways a little sloppy in some areas – which was to be expected with as much rain the area has received.
Honey Run Golf Club has done a great job of getting everything back to top notch playing form. On our score card this is a birdie course for sure…..although I think it could use a little more water to make things a bit more challenging!
There were gorgeous trees lining the wide fairways. It was clear that the designer wanted you to enjoy your round without having to hunt for your ball.
When we stepped up to the 1st tee we were paired with Mike and Rob. We had to get started so we didn’t get an opportunity to chat with them until the second hole.
Kathy is retired from the U.S. Navy. She spent 23 years serving our country wherever the Navy sent her – and I will tell you we have been assigned all over the world.
Today we quickly learned just how small this world really is!
While chatting with Mike and Rob, we learned they had retired from the Navy as well. So we continued to ask more questions about their Naval careers. We learned they were prior Navy Chief Petty Officers (CPOs) who received a commissioning through the Navy’s Limited Duty Officer (LDO) program – just like Kathy.
Not only that….BUT they also worked in the EXACT SAME career field as Kathy!! As we continued to talk we realized we even know many of the same people they do and…….
It was a hoot – and made the day that more enjoyable!
Of course we would enjoy meeting up with Mike and Rob again and play another round.
Both Mike and Rob were good players and appeared to enjoy the course as much as we did. Mike mentioned he has played Honey Run Golf Club before and said he thought the back 9 holes had more character and was a bit more challenging. I would agree. There were more bluffs to hit from. More traps and bends where the ball could have been played, and more water challenges.
Honey Run Golf Club was a fun round of golf. It keeps you in the game even when you have a bit of a miss hit. If you are in the area take the time to get in a round of golf at Honey Run Golf Club. It is easy to get to.
I would play this course again. We almost didn’t play golf today – I am glad we did!
