“Reads from the Reds”
February 10, 2020
Greetings from 18 Holes and Counting. After much thought, as well as discussion with my main squeeze, I have decided to start a regular article submission to our blog. It’s going to be called “Reads from the Reds”. As a recreational golfer with a 22 handicap, more times than not I tee off from the red tees. The view and read of the courses we play from the red tees is very different from that of the other tees.
Obstacles that challenge golfers hitting from the blacks, blues or even whites, may not even be in play for me at the reds. My read of the fairways may not have the water hazard or tree line. However, I still need to look at the read of the fairway from the red tee box to access my target and aim for the green. It’s this thought that helped me come up with the title. Every couple of weeks I will be writing about my “Reads from the Reds” as it relates to this wonderful game that I enjoy, as well as it relates to life.
There is so much we can learn about golf and life by looking at parallels between the two. Life itself is like playing golf – every day is a new course with its twists and turns, and its up and downs. In both, every shot counts. In life and golf we must plan ahead, learn from experience, and prepare for future challenges.
As we learn to recognize the demands of both, we will need to determine what our response will be to both the obstacles and the opportunities. The true secret to playing the game of golf and life well lies in dedication and commitment. My hope is you will take away a better appreciation of golf and perhaps get out there and experience the Read from the Reds yourself.
Here’s to many “Fairways and Greens”.

Kathy, I couldn’t agree with you more! I am not a great golfer. In fact my perfect game is best ball…which is never mine…haha. But being on the golf course, outside, unplugged and disconnected is bliss. It is hard to be stressed out there. I look forward to reading more of your postings, to playing golf with you, and to showing you our wonderful Wisconsin golf courses!
