18 Holes and Counting!

Our Love Affair with Golf!

Perdio Bay Golf Club Review

Kathy and I are going to be in Pensacola for a couple of months. It is easy for us to play our home course because of the cost – It is hard to beat $16 a round. But, we decided that in order to do what we set out to do, we would have to play other courses in the Pensacola area.

We decided that today we were going to play a new course – Perdido Bay Golf & Lodging. We have driven past it many times and every time we do, we say we need to play that course. I am glad that we did.

This course has everything.

When we stepped up on the first hole we were paired with Jake and John. They promptly told us that there was a lot of water on the course. They were right!

But they forgot to tell us that there was lots of sand too. The good news is that the water and sand is there as a visual hazard in most cases. For sure the water needed to be respected. But, you can play the course without putting a ball in the water.

Of course I didn’t do that. I decided that a few of my balls needed to go swimming.

Many of the holes had water as a part of the layout. As I said, the water could be navigated around. It was mostly on the side or just beyond the layup area. Most of the time courses that have this much water place some of it in the best landing areas. Perdido Bay Golf & Lodging used the water as a penalty for a bad shot. I think that is how most hazards should be placed.

The sand is the same. Of course some of the bunkers were guards for the greens. Again, they were guards and could be navigated around with a bit of planning. The only thing that was not that nice about the sand was the quality. In a few of the holes there was mud. In defense of the course, it has been raining here for days. And it has been raining hard. I was actually surprised at how dry the rest of the course was. So, I think I am complaining about something that is not a regular issue.

The course layout was very pleasing. Perdido Bay Golf & Lodging took into consideration the natural wildlife. There was even an alligator sunning on the edge of the water.

The trees, water, grass and wildlife all came together to form a great course. Perdido Bay Golf & Lodging had enough tee boxes to make it playable for every level of play. I didn’t feel like they gave Kathy an advantage. We have played a lot of courses that just put the red tees right in front of the fairway. Not Perdido Bay Golf & Lodging. They made the hole shorter for the red tees but, they did not make it bland. She had some of the same issues the other tee boxes had. Testing her skill throughout the day.

Perdido Bay Golf & Lodging is a solid course that I will play again. Both Kathy and I enjoyed our round! The only draw back was the price. I am always a little shy of playing courses that are $50 bucks and over. I don’t think that $50 bucks is very expensive for golf. I just think it makes playing golf more than once a week just out of reach for most people. In some cases it makes it out of reach for families to play together.

With everything in mind, I would give this course a solid birdie.

There is very little missing from Perdido Bay Golf & Lodging and if you find yourself in Pensacola and want to play a course that has everything to test your golf skill, don’t miss the opportunity to play here.
